Tips for greasy hair
Hey! ✨ If your hair gets greasy quickly, this post is for you! Oily roots can be frustrating, especially when your hair starts looking flat just a day after washing. But don’t worry, by making a few simple changes in your routine, you can keep your hair fresh for longer. Here are my best tips to reduce greasy hair:
1. Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) helps balance your scalp’s pH and removes product buildup that can make your hair look greasy. Try mixing 3 tablespoons of ACV with 1 glass of water and applying it to your scalp after shampooing and conditioning. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes and then rinse it out with water. Do this 1-2x a week. This helps control oil production and makes your hair feel lighter and fresher!
2. A gentle shampoo
Harsh shampoos with ingredients like sulfates, alcohols, and silicones can strip your scalp of its natural oils, leading to irritation and even more oil production. Instead, switch to a gentle shampoo, like a baby shampoo, which cleanses without over-drying. These are my two favourite baby shampoos: https://amzn.to/4hE6M9y and https://amzn.to/4iBuswF , they cleanse my hair soo well, are super gentle, leave your hair shiny and soft, are affordable and smell heavenly 🍓🫧! These mild formulas are perfect for adults too and help maintain a balanced scalp.
3. Don’t Wash Your Hair Every Day
Washing your hair too often strips away natural oils, causing your scalp to produce even more oil to compensate. Instead of daily washing, try washing every 2–3 days to help regulate oil production.
4. Apply Conditioner Only to the Mids & Ends
Using conditioner on your roots can weigh your hair down and make it greasy faster. Instead, apply it only to your mid-lengths and ends to keep your hair moisturized without making your scalp oily. I use the Herbal Essences conditioner (Get it here ➜ https://amzn.to/4iuRbu9). It truly transformed my hair! This conditioner left my hair soft, silky and shiny and while making it smell like fresh flowers 🌷🌸
5. Change Your Pillowcase Every 3 Days
Your pillowcase absorbs oil, sweat, and product buildup from your hair and skin. If you don’t change it often, all that buildup transfers back to your hair, making it greasy faster. Switching to a fresh pillowcase every 3 days can make a big difference!
6. Double Shampoo for a Deeper Clean
Double shampooing is a game changer for oily hair! The first wash removes dirt and buildup, while the second cleanse properly cleans your scalp. To do this:
Apply a small amount of shampoo and massage it into your scalp. Rinse
Apply a second small amount of shampoo, wash well, and rinse thoroughly
Your hair will feel much cleaner, and you won’t need to wash it as often!
7. Use a scalp massager
A scalp massager (You can get one here: https://amzn.to/42kA7jR) helps remove buildup, unclog hair follicles, and distribute shampoo evenly. Plus, it improves circulation, promoting healthier hair growth. Use it while shampooing for a deeper, more effective cleanse!
8. Clean Your Hairbrush Regularly
Your hairbrush collects oils, dust, and product residue, which can transfer back to your hair. To prevent this:
Remove hair from your brush daily
Wash your brush with shampoo once a week
This small habit keeps your scalp cleaner and prevents extra oil from building up.
I hope these tips helped you, see you! 💗
